Multicultural Advertising Training (MAT)/Saatchi & Saatchi LA Scholarship Information and Application
MAT, Multicultural Advertising Training, and Saatchi LA award an annual $2,500 Scholarship based on merit. MAT administers the scholarship for the purpose of providing educational funding opportunities for multicultural college students and/or graduates who are passionate about pursuing a career in the Los Angeles advertising community.
SELECTION COMMITTEE
The committee will consist of at least two representatives from the MAT Executive Committee and two representatives from Saatchi LA’s Executive Committee. Each candidate will be reviewed by the committee before being selected to move forward in the process. Finalists will be notified by March 25, and presentations and brief interviews will be conducted on Saturday, April 2 (time/place TBD). The scholarship recipient will be notified in mid April.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
Applicants must meet ALL of the following:
- Be multi-culturally diverse as defined by the MAT program
- Be a Junior or Senior in college, or a recent graduate looking for a job in advertising (Please note to apply as a recent grad your application date and graduation date cannot be more than 6 months apart)
- Be committed to pursuing a career in the LA advertising community
- Either be participating in, or have participated in, an internship or part-time job within an advertising or marketing company
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
- Complete MAT – SSLA Scholarship Application Profile online at (via the “career” portal) - once that is complete, you will be notified via email with the application questionnaire which is to be completed and sent back via email along with;
- Two letters of recommendation – one must be from a current/past internship supervisor, the other is of your choosing;
- A current and up-to-date Resume
- Finalists will be asked to communicate your passion and interest in a career in advertising by preparing, and presenting, on the day of your interview, one of the following: (please choose one of your Lovemarks from the application to include in your presentation)
- An essay
- A video
- A portfolio
- A PowerPoint presentation
Note: This presentation will be a significant factor in evaluating you as our scholarship recipient and careful consideration should be given to explaining your passion for the advertising industry. (For example, tell us what you admire about your Lovemark advertising campaigns, past or present; Create a new advertising campaign for your Lovemark; Give a history of how it came to be your Lovemark, etc) On the day of the presentation, please be prepared to discuss the answers given to the questions in the application.

MAT/Cardona Scholarship for Outstanding Hispanic Alumni
This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a MAT Program alum to assist in furthering their advertising career in Los Angeles. The Cardona Scholarship was created by Rafael Cardona, a former, MAT alum, who started his advertising career by interning through the MAT Program. Rafael has also given back to the program by being a dedicated, passionate and supportive board member since 2005. For the past four years, Rafael has served as a committee member for the other MAT Program Scholarship as well as chairman for the Laughing MATters Comedy Night Fundraiser where he helped elevate the event. His love and passion for the program have driven him to lend support for Hispanic MAT alumni candidates.
